The future of returning dramedy, "Shameless," has been discussed by Nancy Pimental, one of the show's executive producers in a recent interview. According to the showrunner, it is likely that the Emmy Rossum-starred series will end after Season 8.
"Shameless" has returned for its seventh season last Sunday, a premiere which found the Gallaghers taking on wiser and bolder decisions for themselves. Fiona has decided to abstain from men, Lip returned from rehab, Debbie turned to stealing strollers to make money and Carl went under the knife to get circumcised. Speaking with TV Line, Pimental discussed the show's future and whether or not she thinks about a nearing "endgame" for the Gallaghers.
"We've certainly mentioned doing at least Season 8," Pimental told the publication.
"Then we also say, 'Look, it's a family, and the kids are growing. It could go on forever.' So we've talked about all options, [including] wrapping it up in a year or two. Or do we have more stories in us, because we have so many characters?"
Based on the showrunner's statements, it seems that Shameless could still go a long way. Although the Gallagher kids are not getting any younger, what made viewers stick to the series is the ensemble's great chemistry from the very beginning. For now, it's a safe bet that the show is not going anywhere.
Moving forward, next week's episode titled "Swipe, F..., Leave," will find Fiona adopting a new attitude and Debbie getting herself into trouble. As for Frank, viewers will find the Gallagher patriarch barricading himself on the top floor of their house.
"Shameless" Season 7 airs every Sunday at 9PM on Showtime.
