The Hardy Son & Baker production company of "Taboo" star Tom Hardy teams up with NBCUniversal International Studios on two TV shows "Trees" and "Pendulum." These two projects are for development as part of the studios' first-look deal.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hardy Son & Baker will produce the crime thriller "Pendulum" and the science-fiction graphic novel series "Trees." It is set up by Hardy and partner Dean Baker.
"Pendulum" is a crime thriller set in the digital underworld, Variety reported. It is about an everyman targeted by a serial killer. It will be developed as a TV series with British writer Adam Hamdy adapting from his own upcoming novel and serving as the executive producer.
"Pendulum" is planned in a trilogy. The first one will be published by Headline in November in Australia, Britain, Ireland, and New Zealand. Quercus has acquired the U.S. book rights and will publish the novel in June 2017.
Meanwhile, "Trees" will be adapted and produced by Hardy Son & Baker that NBCUniversal acquired the rights. It is set 10 years after the arrival of aliens on Earth. The vast aliens stand on the planet's surface like trees, not moving or communicating and appearing to acknowledge the human life and society.
The graphic novels of "Trees" follow the silent pressure and strange changes they exert on global communities from China to the Arctic Circle. It is from award-winning comic book writer and New York Times best-selling author Warren Ellis and illustrator Jason Howard.
The historical drama "Taboo" is the first show of Hardy Son & Baker. It is written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight with Hardy in a lead role. It is set to air on BBC in the U.K. and FX in the U.S. in early 2017.
