"Robocop" star Peter Weller has boarded the cast of The Last Ship Season 4.
According to TV Line, Weller has landed the recurring role of Dr. Paul Vellek, a world-renowned authority in genetic modification and plan biotechnology. As to how he will figure on "The Last Ship" Season 4, the publication teased that his expertise will play a critical role to the upcoming mission of the crew. It remains to be seen whether or not he will be interacting with Eric Dane's character, Capt. Tom Chandler in the new season.
Aside from being known for portraying the iconic "Robocop," Weller has also appeared in multiple TV series including "Longmire," "Sons of Anarchy, Dexter" and "24." He is the first actor to be announced as a guest star on "The Last Ship" Season 4.
Last month, TNT has renewed "The Last Ship for Season 5 weeks after they announced its Season 4 pickup. According to Deadline, the early renewal was due to the show's consistent ratings during its third run - which averaged 7.1 million viewers per episode. These factors made the Eric Dane-starrer ranked as one of cable's top 10 summer dramas this year.
"The Last Ship has taken viewers on an exciting ride through three truly thrilling seasons," said EVP of original programming for TNT, Sarah Aubrey, in a statement.
"We look forward to watching the cast and production team ratchet up the drama, action and suspense even more over the next two seasons through summer 2018."
"The Last Ship" also stars Adam Baldwin, Bridget Regan, Charles Parnell, Travis Van Winkle, Marissa Neitling and Christina Elmore. Season 4 is slated to premiere sometime in 2017.
