Preview
San Antonio have split their first two games of the preseason with a 91-86 road loss to the Phoenix Suns during their opener then thrashing the Atlanta Hawks, 102-91, at home during their second game last Saturday.
Head coach Gregg Popovich did not play all of his starters, except for Kawhi Leonard, during their defeat to the Suns.
However, he fielded in his best starting lineup against the Hawks and the result is an expected lopsided victory for San Antonio.
LaMarcus Aldridge, Pau Gasol, Tony Parker, and Danny Green all made their preseason debuts versus Atlanta, scoring 14, 5, 15, and 2 points respectively to join Leonard in the starting lineup.
Super sub Manu Ginobili also played for the first time, appearing in 16 minutes off the bench and scoring 11 points on 4-for-10 shooting.
Reserve small forward Davis Bertans also had a notable game as a substitute, netting 10 points in only nine minutes as he shot 4-for-5 from the field.
Meanwhile, the Pistons had only played a single game so far in the preseason and it resulted in a 101-94 loss to the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Arena last Thursday.
Andre Drummond, Marcus Morris, Tobias Harris, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Ish Smith started for head coach Stan Van Gundy during the match. Drummond and Morris top-scored for the team with 17 points each while Harris fired 15.
One notable bench player was power forward Jon Leuer who scored 12 points off the bench on 6-for-10 shooting.
Other than that, the Pistons looked like they still have a lot of training and preparation to do to be successful in the upcoming season. Reggie Jackson was available on the bench but was not fielded in by Van Gundy.
Prediction
Another wide victory for the Spurs as Coach Popovich will look to build team chemistry, especially with new signing Gasol. Parker could be given limited minutes again to preserve him for the games that really matter.
