NBA comissioner Adam Silver is optimist the deal in collective bargain agreement will be reached soon. But the league and its players association must finalize the deal in a short time, as he is reluctant to mention specific timetable regarding the agreement.
Silver spoke in Shanghai, China before 10th edition of the Global Games in China on Sunday night began as reported by NBA.com. He did not want to set a specific date, but mentioned the league and NBA Players Association continues to meet on a regular basis to discuss the issue. He said the club owners, and players association have the common understanding regarding the CBA.
"There's a sense from both the owners and the union management that there is a lot at stake here," he said. "I think everyone's feeling the pressure from all the constituents involved in this league for all the jobs that we provide that it's incumbent upon us to work something out and get a deal done."
Prior to his arrival in China, Silver met the NBPA chairman Michelle Roberts in Spain and discuss the CBA with her. Roberts was in Spain to attend the Oklahoma City Thunder preseason game.
However, according to Washington Post, both NBA and its players association, NBPA must use the good momentum to reach the deal. Since failure to make use of the momentum will result a potential catastrophic for the league.
The collective bargain agreement is the most important part in the NBA management, as it govern the rules concerning player contracst, trades and other related issues. The agreeent is signed between NBA, consist of the comissioner and team owners with NBA Players Association. Failing to reach the agreement will be a disaster just at it was in 2011 NBA lockout which made NBA shortened its league schedule, reducing its potential income from the advertising.
NBA and NBPA is still discussing the CBA which due to expire July next year.
