It's official! The cast of a highly anticipated historical drama "Battleship" has been finalised. So Ji Sub, Song Joong Ki, and Hwang Jung Min will star as leading characters in the movie.
The news was confirmed by online publication Soompi in its recent report. According to the website, the production company revealed the exciting news in a statement released on Jan. 15. "Battleship" is reportedly a period movie that brings a tale from Japanese colonial era. It is the story of 400 people who were forced to get on a battleship. It shows the struggle of these 400 people who try to escape the torment.
Helmed by "Veteran" director Ryoo Seung-wan, the movie is expected to go under production in the first half of 2016. Hwang will reunite with Ryoo after working with him in the 2015's "Veteran" where he played the role of a hot-headed detective. Hwang earned praise for his work in "Veteran." He is also known for his movies like "Ode to My Father" and "The Unjust," "You Are My Sunshine," "A Bittersweet Life" and more.
Hwang will play the role of the protagonist Lee Kang Ok, who is tricked to board the ship. Meanwhile, So portrays the character named Choi Chil Sung, who happens to be a peacekeeper. His character is famous for restoring peace in Jongno area. He is also a great fighter. So is popularly known for his television roles in "Oh My Venus," "I'm Sorry," "Phantom" and more. His role in 2013 series "Master's Sun" was much appreciated by his fans. According to allkpop, Hwang's "Himalaya" has been received really well as it just its seven-millionth viewer on Jan. 11.
Hwang and So's character will be joined by Song's character Park Moo Young. He is on the battleship to protect his fellow freedom fighters fighting for independence. Song is noted for his work in the movie "A Frozen Flower," "The Grand Heist," and "A Werewolf Boy." He will soon be seen in the upcoming K-drama "Descendants of the Sun." He has also featured in several variety shows including "Running Man," "Music Bank" and more.
There is no news about the female cast of "Battleship." The film is set to hit the theater in 2017.
