"The Simpsons" reaches another milestone with its 600th episode - a feat no TV series, animated or not, has reached. To mark the celebration, the popular animated series launched a unique experience where viewers can enjoy the show's couch gag through Google's VR cardboard.

Fox's animated TV series "The Simpsons" recently aired their 600th episode on its 28th season. The feat was celebrated not only through their show but also through virtual experience. According to Engadget, the animated series couch gag is called "Planet of the Couches" and it heavily parodies the film "Planet of the Apes."

Aside from the regular couch gag, fans can also experience the popular opening sequence through Google Cardboard. The virtual reality experience provides extensive content for viewers because of its 360-degree content. The VR experience is extended with two more minutes and additional content from Moe as well as Comic Book Guy.

Google Cardboard, Google's answer to the growing need for virtual experience, was first introduced in 2014. It's known for its affordability because of its material and focuses on content where users can download to their smartphones for a complete VR experience.

According to Gamespot, the animated TV series isn't shy in accommodating technology in their series. "The Simpsons" has featured multiple stories about technology such as Apple and Steve Jobs, Bart's virtual reality experience at a carnival and even World of Warcraft.

The 600th episode of "The Simpsons" is also their 27th "Tree House of Horror" special. Their annual Halloween episode still features the regular comedy/horror stories but the special episode marks the return of Frank Grimes. Returning as a ghost, Grimes and other characters from the past conspire to kill the entire Simpsons family.

Aside from a completely immersive VR experience, "The Simpsons" will also go through another first this season: an hour-long episode. The special will air next year and it will parody another popular show "Empire."

The hit animated TV series takes advantage of the current technology to take their fans to a different kind of experience. As the series is noted for their fondness in tackling technology, the VR experience offers a different type of content.
