"Game of Thrones" has been a revolutionary HBO series in the fantasy genre, while "Westworld" is rising up to be the same in the sci-fi category. With awards being given to the live-screen adaptation for George R. R. Martin's literary piece and "Westworld" breaking rating records with its premiere, one begs the question: "What if there is sort of crossover between both shows?"
While this may have been a fan community's idea for both of the show, it was actually the "Westworld" showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy themselves who suggested it, along with the "Game of Thrones" author George R. R. Martin, according to Entertainment Weekly. "Westworld's" Nolan and Joy were discussing about it over the dinner table a couple of months ago with the known fantasy author. A follow-up coverage was made after their delighted reaction.
"We love George and our daughter's first trip anywhere in the world was out to Santa Fe for a screening of 'The Prestige' at his theater, the Jean Cocteau," Nolan says. "He's a lovely guy and a stunning writer and it's flattering he would encourage a crossover. We should be so lucky."
Joy also expressed her delight in the idea, but also cast a shadow of a doubt on the idea. "I need to be believe that dragons are real. I want them be a real thing. So as much as I love George, I can't lose that for myself!"
That being said, of course there are risks to this monumentally huge step in TV show business. Combining two different shows with two vastly different concepts is something to be given a huge deliberation for, especially in the creative, logistical and legal sense.
Collider also states that the "Westworld" showrunners might start poking around the idea for a Roman and Medieval world, hence the fun idea for crossing the show with "Game of Thrones." It would actually be nice for fans to see some characters from Westeros in the rising sci-fi hit series.
