Another hilarious episode for NBC's Thursday sitcom "The Good Place" where evidence has finally surfaced proving that Chidi is not the flawless ethical specimen he claims to be has finally arrived.
During the past episodes, "The Good Place' was able to show that Eleanor (Kristen Bell) doesn't belong to the place, Jianyu's (Manny Jacinto) past as a morally bankrupt drug-dealing DJ, and even provided insight into Tahani's (Jameela Jamil) desperate need for acceptance. And it is in this similar tenor that the mystery of Chidi (William Jackson Harper) has also been debunked.
The flashbacks showed Chidi's colleague, Henry, asking her about about his new red, bedazzled cowboy boots. Chidi lied and told Henry that he likes them which unwittingly instilled to the poor guy a false sense of confidence. The lying cause Chidi sleepless nights but given with opportunity to correct it, he lied again. To make matters worse, Henry was even hospitalized because of aneurysm where Chidi still shied away from the truth not until Henry underwent surgery and survived it.
Although Chidi's past may not be as morally bankrupt as the others, the lies he told only showed that he is not perfect. More so, that the world they are living now is not perfect either. And with Eleanor running around, the Good Place won't be as good as it can be.
Later on, Michael (Ted Danson) announced his retirement, taking out his train out of the neighborhood and into the Eternal Shriek-a lifetime of torture for architects. Of course, Eleanor is to the rescue, devising a plan to save Michael.
Initially, Eleanor thought Michael's retirement as the best option. But her guilt ate her and instead, she decided to kill Janet (D'Arcy Carden). This is so because the sole access to the train belongs to Janet, which means that her death will save Michael from being torn limb from limb.
But Chidi is not amenable to the plan. He does not want to kill a soulless computer to which he and Eleanor have difficulty deciding who will press Janet's kill switch. But when Jianyu showed up and almost pressed the button, Chidi pushed him out of the way and accidentally pressed the button that ended Janet's life.
Janet's ghost then appeared, announcing to the entire Good Place her murder. To this Michael lamented which made him depressed and despondent, adding Janet's murder to the long list of disasters which took place during his tenure.
During the funeral, Janet's body rebooted with a new operating system. Michael then asked her who the perpetrators of her murder are. But her memory has been wiped, and given this new development, Michael postponed his retirement to get to the bottom of Janet's murder.
The Good Place airs Thursdays at 8:30PM on NBC.
