Still remember the talking car that Michael Knight used to drive? "Knight Rider" who once starred David Hasselhoff, is going to have a digital reboot and will be directed by none other than "Fast and Furious" director, Justin Lin.
Fans know that Lin adores car movies so much the reason he was chosen by Hot Wheelsfilm to direct the reboot which suited him the most. However, the said reboot will not be viewed as TV series or on the silver screen. "Knight Rider" will rather be a crime-buster's story fighting lawlessness alongside his sports car, Kitt, installed with Artificial Intelligence. The digital series will be produced in collaboration with Lin and his YouOffendMeYouOffendMyFamily (YOMYOMF) digital media company, Gizmodo reported.
There is no information as of this writing what particular changes will be applied to the "Knight Rider" series. It could be that the car, as well as the theme song, will still be 100 percent the same.
According to Machinima CEO Chad Gutstein during the press release, "Knight Rider is an iconic franchise whose concepts of AI and autonomous vehicles were science fiction in the 1980s and are now science fact."
Slash Film learned that the original "Knight Rider" aired from 1982 to 1986 with four seasons that ran. Because of its popularity, several sequels, adaptations, and spin-offs made David Hasselhoff's TV series a hit but are not always the case. A TV spinoff was produced in 1997 but lasted only a season likewise with the TV series made in 2008. In fact, there have been efforts to again launch "Knight Rider" to become a feature film franchise, however, with little progress.
"Knight Rider" will premiere sometime in 2017 and will be directed by Justin Lin who also directed series of movies for "Fast and Furious". As of the moment, there are no details of casts and others talents that will comprise the production.
