The "Cloverfield" franchise has been one of the most unique storytelling films ever released. The first film was told in a first person perspective about people filming a catastrophic event involving a gigantic monster invading New York. The second film, on the other hand, was a psychological thriller where the characters had to remain in an underground bunker thinking that a hostile catastrophe caused the Earth to be uninhabitable. Now, J. J. Abrams will be helming the third installment of the franchise titled "God Particle," and it has totally different concept from the previous titles, but the same element of mystery.

According to The Wrap, this next movie will be one of studio Bad Robot's next lineup of films. Abrams, along with Paramount Pictures, has planned to actually conceptualize and release a new Cloverfield movie every year for the possible future. With each film being released, the director and his team are determined to make every film different but sharing the common element of "aliens."

Originally, "God Particle" was first announced in 2012, according to an earlier article of IGN. However, the project's progress was static for years and it never brought out any following news after Insurge Pictures (Paramount's independent studio) went through a lot of issues back then. But, now, news has resurfaced on the sci-fi thriller and has been confirmed to be in production.

Here's the official description of the movie: "After a physics experiment with a large hadron accelerator causes the Earth to seemingly vanish completely, the terrified crew of an orbiting American space station is left floating in the middle of now-even-more-empty space. When a European spacecraft appears on their radar, the Americans must determine whether it's their salvation, or a harbinger of doom."

With Abrams being the producer, the film will be directed by Julius Onah, along with stars including David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Brühl and Chris O'Dowd.

"God Particle" will hit theaters on Feb. 24, 2017.
