In 2005, Watanabe played Ra's Al Ghul in "Batman Begins," which was directed by Christopher Nolan. The Japanese actor starred with Katie Holmes, Liam Neeson, Michael Caine and Christian Bale, who passionately kissed "The Big Short" director Adam McKay at the Critics' Choice Awards 2016, Us Weekly reported.
9. "The Sea of Trees"
Directed by Gus Van Savant, "The Sea of Trees" starred Watanabe opposite Naomi Watts and Matthew McConaughey, who recently told Garden & Gun that he said no to a lot of roles when he became a father.

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, "Inception" won four Academy Awards particularly in visual effects, sound editing, sound mixing and cinematography. It starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Josehp Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page and Watanabe, among others.
7. "The Unbroken"
Watanabe won the Best Actor award at the Awards of the Japanese Academy in 2010 for his role in "The Unbroken." The drama film was based on the 1985 plane crash regarded as the worst aviation event in Japanese history.

In the 2005 romantic drama "Memoirs of a Geisha," Watanabe co-starred with "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" stars Zhang Ziyi and Michelle Yeoh.
5. "Letters from Iwo Jima"
Directed by Clint Eastwood, "Letters from Iwo Jima" was nominated Best Motion Picture of the Year at the Academy Awards in 2007 but lost to Graham King's "The Departed." Starring Watanabe, Kazunari Ninomiya and Tsuyoshi Ihara, the war drama film told a story from the perspective of the Japanese who fought the World War II battle of Iwo Jima between Imperial Japan and the United States.
4. "Unforgiven"
Japanese-Korean filmmaker Sang-il Lee directed the 2013 action drama film "Unforgiven" and co-wrote it with David Webb Peoples. It starred Watanabe opposite Yukiyoshi Ozawa and Jun Kunimura. It earned Watanabe a Best Actor nomination from the Awards of the Japanese Academy in 2014 but he lost to "The Eternal Zero" actor Junichi Okada.
3. "Memories of Tomorrow"
Based on Hiroshi Ogiwara's novel, "Memories of Tomorrow" is about a successful businessman dealing with an early onset of Alzheimer's disease. The drama film earned Watanabe the Best Actor award from the Awards of the Japanese Academy in 2007.

Starring Ken Watanabe as Dr. Ishiro Serizawa, "Godzilla" was directed by Gareth Edwards and was written by Max Borenstein based on Dave Callaham's story. The 2014 sci-fi film also starred Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, CJ Adams and Elizabeth Olsen, among others.

Watanabe was nominated Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards in 2004 for his role as Lord Moritsugu Katsumoto in "The Last Samurai" but he lost to "Mystic River" actor Tim Robbins. The action drama film also starred John Koyama, Billy Connolly, Chan Lindberg, William Atherton, Masato Harada and Tom Cruise, among others.
