Although she is one half of the AlDub duo, which broke Twitter records in 2015, the Philippines' Dubsmash Queen and "Eat Bulaga" host Maine Mendoza, also known as Yaya Dub, has yet to beat "It's Showtime" host and "Blood Ransom" star Anne Curtis in the Instagram world.
Currently, Yaya Dub has 2.1 million followers on Instagram, which is just almost half of Curtis's 4.3 million Instagram followers. While she is the reigning Dubsmash Queen of the Philippines, Yaya Dub has a long way to go to beat Curtis in the Instagram world unlike the Philippine TV shows that they host, "Eat Bulaga" and "It's Showtime," which are leading the race of ratings neck and neck.
Yaya Dub received her first acting award in December 2015 when Metro Manila Film Festival declared her as the Best Supporting Actress for her role in "My Bebe Love #KiligPaMore." She has yet to conquer the international scene as an actress but she has been tapped by Disney Channel Asia to represent the "Frozen" character in its 2016 calendar.
At the 86th Academy Awards, "Frozen" won the Academy Award for Best Animated Film. It also won Best Original Song for "Let It Go" by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and husband Robert Lopez, who is of Filipino, Scottish and American descent.
Yaya Dub is not the first Filipino actress to represent a Disney character in a Disney Channel Asia calendar. In 2015, Sarah Geronimo represented Rapuzel from "Tangled" while Kim Chiu represented the title character of "Mulan."
On the other hand, Curtis was featured in "America's Next Top Model" Season 18 episode 8 titled "Georgina Chapman," which aired on April 25, 2012. The "It's Showtime" host modeled the Hello Kitty-themed accessories designed by Filipino fashion designer Francis Libiran, who also designed the controversial dress worn by Yaya Dub and was previously modeled by Chiu in 2015.
"We are so glad, honored and grateful that Maine Mendoza and her official stylists, Stylized Studio, Inc., chose a beautiful Francis Libiran dress from our Spring/Summer 2015," Libiran said in a statement obtained by GMA News at the time. "Maine Mendoza's gown at 'Eat Bulaga's' 'Tamang Panahon' concert for a cause was bought and paid for by Eat Bulaga Production."
Moreover, Curtis's appearance on "ANTM" Season 18 is not the only Hollywood exposure she had. In 2014, she starred in the Hollywood romantic fantasy film "Blood Ransom" opposite "American Horror Story" alum Alexander Dreymon.
After "Blood Ransom," Curtis continued her hosting stint in "It's Showtime" while Dreymon joined the cast of "The Last Kingdom" as Uhtred of Bebbanburg. In an interview with The Big Issue, he said he wanted to be involved in "The Last Kingdom" because he was "a starving actor" and they offered him a job.
