For quite some time now, some American states have glorified the benefits they are getting from the marijuana plant. The time has come for Australians to do the same.

In February, medical marijuana passed the legislation and the Narcotic Drugs Amendment Bill 2016 was created. This gives the go signal for individuals and organizations in the country to seek a license for cultivation and manufacture of medical marijuana in Australia.

The Office of Drug Control will take applications for weed cultivation from those who are considered to be "fit and proper". People and businesses that have an eye for the lucrative venture must pass the security test conducted by the office and needs to expose the site where they will be cultivating marijuana to make sure that there is no hidden agenda, Mashable reported.

On Sunday, Australia's health minister Sussan Ley stated that the legislation will provide patients who need medicinal marijuana as well as their doctors a safe and authorized access to marijuana.

"Until now, it has been difficult for patients to access medicinal cannabis products from overseas sources. These new laws change that situation by providing for a domestic supply of medicinal cannabis products that are not readily available for import," said Ley.

According to Finfeed, the Therapeutic Goods Administration's decision will enable prescribed medical marijuana to consume the plant but should keep the natural substance stay firmly controlled. The decision pursues from the Federal Parliament's ruling to modify the Narcotics Drugs Act that gives permission for marijuana to be legally cultivated in Australia just for medical purposes.

It seems that the public is gradually embracing cannabis not only for its medical purposes but also for other industries including the use of hemp, food, and biofuels. Worldwide clinical trials supply strong evidence of cannabis' medical values that deal with epilepsy, chronic pain, and cancer with little or no side effects at all.

Marijuana which is grown for non-medical purposes will still be considered as illicit. Australia's legalization of medical cannabis will start November 1.
