Few scenes from the popular KBS2 drama "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" have recently become the subject of controversy. However, actress Kim Yoo Jung revealed that she had something else going through her mind while filming the controversial kissing scene with co-star Park Bo Gum.
One of the scenes in question was a lip-lock scene between Kim's character of Hong Ra On and crown prince Lee Yeong, played by Park. The scene caused quite the scandal not only because of the age gap between the two actors, but also because of the fact that Kim is only 17 years old, which makes her a minor, as per Korean law.
"Truthfully, when I was filming [the kiss scene], I was more worried about the uniform I was wearing than the kiss itself," Soompi quoted the actress as saying. She added that at first she found it a bit odd that two characters wearing formal, male clothing with topknots were supposed to be kissing but she filmed the shot with a fresh mindset and focused on what the story demanded instead of worrying about the scene.
Kim also touched on another scene from the romance drama that caused quite a stir. The scene in question showed the actress changing her clothes and wrapping her chest using bandages in an attempt to conceal her sexual identity. Kim's character plays a eunuch in the first half of the show.
"While there was a worrying aspect of it, it was a necessary scene to show Hong Ra On's emotional state," she noted. "It received attention because it turned out well, and there are other people who thought of it from a different point of view."
Korea's media watchdog, the Korean Communication Standards Commission (KCSC), disciplined the network over both intimate scenes for allowing a minor to play an adult role. The KSC further noted that such scenes could negatively influence adolescent viewers, according to KPopHerald.
