2016-17 NBA season reigning champions - The Cleveland Cavaliers - are now down on their search for their backup point guard. Despite having two of the top players in NBA, LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, the Cavaliers fans have been anxious about the team's immediate backup.
When asked about the team's current state, Cleveland coach Ty Lue says in an interview with Bleacher Report, "Just learning that position is tough. You can't just throw somebody in a point guard position because it takes time to learn." Admitting to the point that they are still in the process of taking things slow, Lue acknowledges they are still experimenting on who is going to fill the backup position.
One man on the list of potential defenders is Iman Shumpert, who has filled the spot for four games in this season. In spite of his average performance in the previous season, coach Lue has seen his capability in defending the team, taking in consideration his figure, as well as his progressive performance offensively. Shumpert confesses that last season was the worst statistical record in his career.
Another prospect on the point guard backup role is the Cavaliers' rookie, Kay Felder, who has not been seen in three games this season. Felder, who says he is currently working on his 3-point shooting and is aiming on playing hard defense through his first impression interview with NBA News, is being complimented by James, saying he has been watching him in his college years. Lue is still looking out on Felder's aggressive attacks as of the recent games.
While Shumpert and Felder are on top of the list behind Irving, the Cavaliers are grazing on free agency or the trade market, should there be any reason to not have the two on board. Clearly, the team is taking quite some time in this quest, but is positive they will get through their current line-up.
The Cavaliers started the season with a glorious 4-0, and fans are confident that the team would bag the NBA championship this season. Watch the highlights of their latest game this season against Houston Rockets.
