James Cameron's "Avatar" film in 2009, which is dubbed the highest grossing film of all time, has been receiving praises for its technological advancements, especially its computer-generated characters. When asked about the film's upcoming sequel, Cameron reveals he is into exploring more dynamic tools in creating this masterpiece, including a possible easier way of viewing 3D visuals on screen.

In his speech at the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, where Cameron accepted his honorary membership,  the writer, director and producer expresses that he will keep pushing to his limits in the innovation of more effects for movie theaters, saying, "I'm still very bullish on 3D, but we need brighter projection, and ultimately I think it can happen - with no glasses. We'll get there." The concept of 3D viewing without glasses heightens the hype of the sequel and targets another top of the charts record.

Aside from technological innovations, a more intriguing plot is also anticipated in the sequel. Cameron says in an interview that although Avatar 2 generally depicts a continuation of the first film, it will uncover several backstories of the characters and how Pandora was discovered. He also iterates how he wants to deliver an anthology of how the Na'vi technology works, as well as the functions of their entire civilization.

As Avatar 2 takes a higher build-up, spoilers reveal that Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) and Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) are also tying the knot in this movie continuation, besides the couple Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). Surprisingly, despite their apparent demise in the first film, Quaritch and Augustine are said to have a reappearance in the upcoming sequels, which leads them both to a love-hate relationship. While this could all be true, nothing is being confirmed by the actors, nor the producer, yet.

Cameron shares that he has completed scripting the second film, along with a third and a fourth installment. As for the fifth creation, he says he is not the one writing it.

Avatar 2 is said to be released in December 2018, with forthcoming films in 2020, 2022, and 2023.
