A short documentary about CL and her effort to break into the U.S. music industry was released by CNN Style. A branch of CNN, it covers inspirational and authoritative coverage of the worlds of fashion, design, architecture, arts, cars, and luxury.

The short video directed by Grammy-award winner Dave Meyers, follows CL through New York as she speaks about identity, cultural appropriation and her attempt to enter the American music industry as an Asian singer. Also, CL discusses the difference between being a star in Asia and in the US.

"I don't think about my skin. When I'm creating I don't think about the fact that I'm Asian.. I think they have a certain way they look at an Asian girl. That was the struggle for me, for the last two years... I'm not a thing, I'm not a doll," Allkpop quoted CL as saying when asked about America's perception on Asian stars.

American fashion designers Alexander Wang and Jeremy Scott regard her as their friend and muse, and Method Man features in her latest music video, "LIFTED." Stressing that her videos on YouTube are viewed by millions of fans.

During the New York Fashion Week, Scott revealed backstage that "I go around the world, I've seen her fans in Chile, in Brazil, obviously all through Europe. I mean she's not just a Korean or Asian phenomenon, she really is a global superstar," CNN Style reported.

Back in 2014, the 25-year old singer unveils her intentions to formally debut as a solo artist in America and partnered with American music agent Scooter Braun. Braun represented artists like Usher, Ariana Grande, among others.

In the same way as other young stars, CL's experience has not been without a couple thumps. However, CL is really determined to see her music resonate to the American audience.
