After gaining worldwide recognition with his 2012 hit "Gangnam Style," Psy has added another feather in his cap as his latest release "Daddy" has surpassed 100 million views on YouTube.
The South Korean singer's management company YG Entertainment made it official on Jan. 19, Tuesday, that the music video for the song has attracted surpassed the benchmark and gained 100 million 48-hundred views. At the time of filing the report, the views had already surpassed 100 million and 800 thousand hits.
With the feat, Psy has become the first ever South Korean recording artist to reach the milestone of releasing four consecutive music videos with more than 100 million views. His international breakthrough, "Gangnam Style," is nearing almost 2.5 billion views, followed by "Gentleman" with 920 million views and "Hangover" with 241 million views.
"Daddy" featuring CL of 2NE1 also topped Billboard's World Digital Songs chart in December 2015. Reports also stated that releasing his long-awaited seventh album was admitedly not a cake walk for the 38-year-old singer since he was confused between writing English songs and sticking to his old style.
"As I was writing, I kept thinking that it wouldn't be as good as 'Gangnam,' or that listeners overseas would not be able to understand the song. With every line and verse, I had voices fighting in my head. It took a while to sort all that out," The Jakarta Post quoted Psy as saying during a press conference held recently for the release of "Chil-jip Psy-da." The singer also acknowledged that several of his Korean fans are not very happy with his decision and wanted him to return to his older style.
"Daddy" and "Napal Baji," a retro disco dance song, are the two lead singles from Psy's last-released album. Although as soon as the album was released, both the songs shoot to the top of the charts in Korea, it was the American-pop-influenced "Daddy" that remained on the top slot a bit longer than "Napal Baji."
Meanwhile, Psy is all set for another huge leap in his career. The singer will soon be seen in the upcoming Chinese action-comedy movie "From Vegas To Macau 3." He will be seen in a cameo appearance along with the star Chow Yun Fat and is likely to play some kind of gambling advisor, Billboard reported.
