There is that moment when "Heroes of the Storm" just goes crazy with their character selections from their franchises, albeit actually creating effective unit (Murky the Murloc, anyone?). In spite of the roster of heroes reaching up to nearly 60 of them, numerous fans would still love to see what new heroes Blizzard has in store for us next.
Among the requests, the top-picked choices in the list of possible heroes by fans are the "Warcraft" universe's Kel'Thuzad, "StarCraft's" Arcturus Mengsk and even Deckard Cain from the "Diablo" universe, according to "Heroes of the Storm" hero designer Nathan LaMusga (via Polygon).
Now, the last hero candidate, Deckard Cain, is an interesting one since fans of the "Diablo" series may remember him as the elderly man who has the role of prophet and storyteller, departing some background lore while urging player characters unto to their quest against the forces of evil. Deckard Cain is also known for line, "Stay awhile and listen," in the entire "Diablo" series.
Now, the aforementioned interesting part is making a village elder like Deckard Cain a playable hero in the fast-paced action-pumping gameplay of "Heroes of the Storm." Just recently, earlier news reports mentioned Ragnaros, a new character that has the unique ability to take over a defense tower to become one, and Varian Wrynn, the only character that multiclasses from assassin to a tank-like warrior.
It'll be quite peculiar and a challenge to figure out how the seemingly innocent, yet well-known character in the "Diablo" franchise can play out in Blizzard's very own MOBA game. But of course, let's all admit that Blizzard has the knack to mostly make their ideas work.
"I love reading hero pitches on our main Heroes of the Storm forums and on Reddit," LaMusga mentioned during BlizzCon last week. "If you're a community member reading this right now: Send me your Deckard Cain pitches. Make a Deckard Cain. I'd love to see our community's pitches on that one."
Deckard Cain may be a pain to figure out but also an enjoyable challenge to the hero designer of "Heroes of the Storm."
"He is one of the hardest heroes to think of design," said LaMusga. "When you really sit down and think about it, he's a guy who loves to read books. What is he doing? Not to say it's not possible, but it is one of the harder ones. Maybe he plays Hearthstone or something like that."
This maybe a chance to add more heroes into the roster of "Heroes of the Storm" that isn't a Warcraft IP. Just to number how many heroes are in each of Blizzard's IP, there are 13 "Diablo" characters, 13 "StarCraft" characters, and a whole lot of 31 "Warcraft" characters (including two from "Overwatch" and The Lost Vikings from their own game).
Here's a video of who Deckard Cain is in the first "Diablo" game:
