Westworld will return for another run. HBO has renewed the sci-fi series for a second season and has been set to premiere sometime in 2018.
The announcement of Westworld's early season 2 pick up comes after the show aired its seventh episode, where fans discovered the twist behind Jeffrey Wright's character. According to Entertainment Weekly, the cable network has ordered another 10 episodes for Westworld season 2. However, it will not be released next year as everyone might have hoped. Instead, they are planning to release the new installment on 2018 due to production challenges.
"My suspicion is sometime in 2018 because of how big the world is and what goes into shooting it, HBO President Casey Bloys told the site.
"So I don't have a date exactly - they're going to have to map it out and write the scripts - but my guess is sometime in '18."
The early renewal of Westworld on HBO comes no longer as a surprise. The series, which stars Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood, is currently averaging a total of 11.7 millions across all the network's platforms. This record is even higher than Game of Thrones during its freshman run.
Suffice to say, "Westworld" has now established itself as a formidable asset for HBO.
As to whether original cast members will return on Westworld Season 2, Bloys dropped a cryptic tease about this matter. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the network boss remained tight lipped about the cast standing - explaining that he does not want to get ahead of the show's current storyline.
"I don't want to speculate about cast because there's still three episodes left to air," he said.
An all new episode of "Westworld" airs on Sunday at 9PM on HBO.
