"The Punisher" actor Jon Bernthal is on board to star in the independent crime thriller "Stingray." "Ten Empty" director Anthony Hayes is set to direct.
According to Variety, Bernthal will play the titular character in "Stingray" named Raymond in "Stingray." Hayes will also star and play the role of Owen.
"Stingray" tells the story of Raymond being caught up in an organized crime. Raymond accidentally killed the brother of a powerful crime figure. He is then required to kill one member of his own family in the next two days in order to pay off his debt, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
Hayes co-wrote the script for "Stingray" with his co-producers John and Michael Schwarz on behalf of Deeper Water. He recently forged a compelling and award-winning career on film and television screens for over 25 years.
Aside from directing, Hayes is also best known as an Australian actor. He also starred in David Michod's multi- award- winning debut feature "Animal Kingdom" as Detective Justin Norris, Phillip Noyce's film "Rabbit Proof Fence" as the fence builder, and in the TV mini-series "The Slap" as Gary. He just completed a leading role in Michod's "War Machine" along with "Inglourious Basterds" actor Brad Pitt.
Bernthal just recently starred opposite "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" actor Ben Affleck in Warner Bros.' "The Accountant" and portrayed the brother of Affleck's character. He also starred as Shane Walsh on the first two seasons of "The Walking Dead" and generated praise for portraying Marvel's anti-hero The Punisher in Netflix's "Daredevil" Season 2. He is expected to be seen next in Edgar Wright's crime thriller "Baby Driver" set to open in March 2017.
"Stingray" is in preproduction and is aiming for an April start in Canada next year. It will be introduced at the American Film Market in November.
