It looks like the next big hit K-drama is here. Recently, "The Legend of the Blue Sea" aired its first episode and surprisingly set a high record.
On Nov. 16, the highly anticipated new, fantasy romance drama starring Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun aired its first episode. The hilarious first encounter between the statuesque mermaid and the clever forger was able to capture viewers' attention, resulting in countless positive reviews, Allkpop reported.
Along with its positive reviews, "The Legend of the Blue Sea" transcend well in viewership ratings. The first episode recorded a 16.4 percent according to Nielsen Korea.
The result is two percent higher than Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo's KBS2 drama "Descendants of the Sun" for its first episode, which recorded a 14.3 percent viewership rating. The KBS2 drama is huge hit not just in South Korea but throughout Asia.
Meanwhile, new KBS2 drama "Oh My Geum Bi," and MBC's "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" recorded a 5.9 percent and 3.3 percent viewership rating, respectively. KBS2 and MBC's new drama series also aired its first episode on Nov. 16.
"Oh My Geum Bi" is about the life of an 8-year old girl who suffers from dementia, a disorder of the mental process caused by brain disease or injury resulting to memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning. The drama stars Heo Jung-eun, Oh Ji-ho, and Park Jin-hee.
While the MBC drama "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" is a coming-of-age sports drama, inspired by the life of Olympic gold medalist Jang Mi-ran. The drama stars former "Doctors" actress Lee Sung-kyung.
The three drama airs back-to-back on SBS, KBS2, and MBC every Wednesdays and Thursdays at 22:00 KST.
