"The Night Shift" is sticking around. NBC has officially renewed the medical drama starring Jill Flint for a fourth season.

According to Variety, the pickup comes from the show's solid performance in ratings. Last summer, its third season averaged a 1.4 rating in adults 18-49 with a total of 6.8 million viewers overall. This record put The Night Shift as the number one summer drama this year.

"Week after week 'The Night Shift' tells incredibly engaging and emotional stories that draw us into a unique world," president of NBC Entertainment Jennifer Salke said in a statement.

"We are delighted to renew the show for an exciting fourth season and look forward to continue working with such a great cast and executive producing team."

NBC has not yet set an official premiere date of "The Night Shift" Season 4, but it is being eyed for release in the summer of 2017. Plot details and casting additions are expected to be announced in the coming months.

Set at the fictional San Antonio Memorial hospital, The Night Shift follows a team of doctors and nurses who work at the emergency room department where they take risks to save their patients. Like most medical dramas, the relationships of the characters are also being explored each week. Its third season finale (aired August 31st) saw Scott and Jordan's lives at risk as they got trapped on a wildfire.

The series also stars Scott Wolf, Jennifer Beals, Eion Macken, Brendan Fehr, Ken Leung, Robert Bailey Jr., JR Lemon and Tanaya Beatty.
