Emilia Clarke is doing another big screen project. The "Game of Thrones" actress has boarded the cast of the upcoming Han Solo standalone film slated for release in 2018.
According to Variety, Clarke will play the female lead on the upcoming "Star Wars" movie where she will star opposite Alden Ehrenreich as Solo and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. Other actresses such as Kiersey Clemmons (Neighbors 2), Jessica Henwick (Game of Thrones) and Tessa Thompson (Creed) also auditioned for the role, but Clarke became the final pick of the producers. Details on her role, however, are still under wraps.
While no plot details have been revealed for Han Solo's standalone film, Deadline reports that it will center on Solo's early adventures as a smuggler before meeting with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: A New Hope. There's also a theory from the franchise's followers that the film may explore on how Solo and Chewbacca became partners.
Currently known as the "Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Anthology Film," the movie is directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller and has been set for release on May 25, 2018.
As for Clarke, this movie project will mark as her first role on the "Star Wars" expanding universe. She previously starred on the blockbuster hit, "Me Before You," which grossed over $200 million worldwide and Terminator Genisys in 2015.
On "Game of Thrones," Clarke will be playing the role of the Queen of Dragons aka Khaleesi until the show's eight and final season. Its penultimate season has been set to premiere in the summer of 2017.
