The film adaptation reboot for NetherRealm's "Mortal Kombat" from New Line Cinemas has already found its new director, Simon McQuoid.
According to Variety, McQuoid, an Australian filmmaker and acclaimed commercial director, is currently in the process of producing the "Mortal Kombat" film reboot, along with James Wan ("The Conjuring") producing the film and latest draft of the script written by screenwriter Greg Russo.
For those who want to know what McQuoid's accomplishments are, he is best known for award-winning commercial work. He was involved in numerous ad campaigns for major companies, especially for the PlayStation, Ranger Rover and Halo ads.
There were other on-screen adaptations of the "Mortal Kombat" franchise. With the title being an incredibly popular video game franchise, the rated M fighting game was adapted into two live-action film adaptations in the 90s, according to IGN.
The "Mortal Kombat" franchise also had a web series called "Mortal Kombat: Legacy," which debuted on Machinima.com's YouTube channel on Apr. 11, 2011, while its entire second season was released on Sept. 26, 2013. "Mortal Kombat: Legacy's" first season is meant to be a prequel to the original game, portraying the background stories of many of the known characters in the franchise and their reason to join the tournament. The second season, on the other hand, covers the actual tournament event itself. The third season has been reported air sometime this year, and it will include characters from "Mortal Kombat X" such as Hanzo, Takeda, Kung Jin, Erron Black and Cassie Cage.
New Line's film reboot of "Mortal Kombat" has been a long time coming and fans are excited to see how the studio will execute the movie. However, James Wan stressed that he doesn't intend to rush the project and makes sure that everything is done right.
