Around a month ago, the first expansion for "Dark Souls 3" was released entitled "Ashes of Ariandel". The expansion featured a new location along with added content such as weapons, armor, and magic. Tweaks to the player vs player (PVP) system were also put into place. However, the release was also coupled with bugs and glitches that proved problematic for a lot of players. Due to that, From Software is updating the game, hoping to fix these problems. Patch notes include fixes for Sir Vilhelm getting stuck or disappearing entirely along with other enemies that were also disappearing or acting unusually.

Along with the fixes are also adjustments to the game's balance though they were not as detailed as the glitch fixes. A lot of the fixes were for specific areas such as the Grand Archives or the Painted World of Ariandel which affected both the single player and multiplayer experience. "Ashes of Ariandel" is said to be the first of two expansions that were promised to be added into the game. With this first expansion just released it is unlikely that we'll hear anything new for the game until next year.

In an interview with From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki, he mentioned that after the second expansion he's moving away from "Dark Souls", making it the end of the franchise. However, he did tell that he was not totally leaving the franchise and may return to it, but not in the immediate future. It is likely that remakes of the game will be made for newer consoles though time will tell if they are full blown remakes or just high definition (HD) remakes. Miyazaki also mentions that he might do something similar to "Dark Souls" in upcoming projects, saying that he'd like to carry some of the things they learned to a new franchise.

"Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel" was released last October 25 for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. It is priced at $14.99 with a season pass of $24.99 that includes the second expansion rumored to release in early 2017.
