Cleveland Cavaliers still desperately need point guard to backup Kyrie Irving. They were not satisfied with the current roster. They may pursue Deron Willams from the Mavericks or other point guard.
Currently the Cavaliers only relies on Irving to manage their front court, as two other point guards DeAndre Liggins and rookie Kay Felder performed below expectations. According to Bleacher Report, Cavaliers are being patient on the point guard as they have the good records. Currently Cleveland Cavaliers post 11-2 after winning their last game against Portland Trail Blazers.
However, the Cavaliers need a sustainable point guard to support Irving who plays average 33.8 minutes per game and scores average 24.0 points, 5.0 assists and 46.9 percent field goals. Especially after veteran point guard Mo Williams retired following his knee injury. While both Liggins and Felder have low productivity with only 2.0 points per game in 8.8 minutes and 3.25 points per game in 7.9 minutes average respectively.
There are several players which according to Cavaliers Nation can bring more depth to the point guard position. They are former Cavaliers Ramon Sessions who now plays for Charlotte Hornets, Aaron Brooks from Indiana Pacers, Sergio Rodriguez from the Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic’s D.J. Augustin and the best option is Deron Williams from Dallas Mavericks.
Currently, Cleveland Cavaliers are not in desperate need for a strong backup point guard. But it is much better for them to address the situation soon enough. Especially if they plan to pursue the championship again this year.
Williams is a veteran point guard which will become a good option for Cavaliers. During his 11-year career in the NBA, he averages 16.8 points and 8.3 assists per game. He was a three-time NBA All-Star in 2010-2012, known for his excellent dime-passing and a clutch player.
