An Arizona woman accidentally invited a teenage stranger to Thanksgiving dinner last week. Apparently, she was trying to add her grandson's number to a family group text inviting everyone to dinner when she accidentally invited another teenager she didn't even know at the time. This happened because her grandson had changed his phone number and had forgotten to let her know.
According to Baltimore CBS Local, she gave her word and let 17-year-old, Jamal Hinton come to dinner anyway. When he texted her back letting her know she texted the wrong number, and they exchanged pictures to prove he was the wrong person, he also asked if he could have a dinner plate anyway and she told him yes because that was what grandmother's do.
The Arizona woman, Wanda Dench cooked two turkeys and set-up a long table in her backyard for all of her family to come eat with her. When Hinton showed up, they hugged each other and Dench said, "I'm so happy you came" as they hugged. Hinton said, "I am too."
Wiat.com reported that Hinton shared the text on social media to prove how wonderful of a person Dench was to all of his followers. However, by doing this, he also shared her phone number and once it was all done and over with, Dench had received 600 text messages from people asking if they could come and eat too.
Dench's daughter read the texts as they came in and she said that at first it was a slow trickle of people asking if they could come and grab a plate too. She said she kept scrolling and scrolling and said to her mom, "You've got a lot of love. We've got to make this into something."
Dench and her family said they think the reason this happened was that it was fate and that it was something people could feel good about after the tense presidential election.
Hinton said that Dench was very open and welcoming to him. He said, "I'm thankful for all the nice people in the world. I've never met her....and she welcomed me into her house, so that shows me how great of a person she is."
Dench and Hinton took selfies together once he showed up to her home, and then posted them all over social media.
