"Naruto Shippuden" continues the adventures of Naruto and a new story arc recently commenced with Sasuke as the featured character. But these story arcs that focuses on character feature could be a prelude to a stand-alone "Boruto" anime series in 2017.
A New Story Arc Commences!
The previous episodes of "Naruto Shippuden" chronicled the lives of the major characters in the anime when they were young with the intention of revealing something unknown from the popular characters. A brand new story arc commences and instead of a recollection of the past, the story focuses on a major character that continues the storyline. The first character to be featured is Naruto's former arch-rival, Sasuke.
According to EP Guides, Sasuke's story will focus on a mysterious attacker who uses exploding humans with the intent to destroy Konoha. The story is in two chapters which could also determine the number of episodes each major character gets in the new story arc. Sasuke will definitely get his hands full since he surmised that the shinobi behind the attacks has a unique ability only found in their blood line or kekkei genkai.
A Set-up For Boruto Stand Alone?
It is undeniable that "Naruto Shippuden" is on its final run. But that doesn't mean the adventure of shinobis will end with Naruto. The latest story arc that focuses on a single character could be a prelude for even something bigger next year.
A big clue for the possible stand-alone anime is from the Anime News Network where the manga "Boruto" is one of the featured manga/anime in Jump Special Anime Festa Event. The event is basically a preview of some of the most popular anime and mangas. No word yet as of this writing of "Boruto" will present itself as a stand-alone anime.
But if every major character becomes a focus in the latest story arc, Naruto's son could also get his own anime series that could premiere next year.
