Lee Byung Hun will be attending the 88th Academy Awards, also known as Oscars. The 45-year-old Korean actor has received an invitation to the Hollywood's most prestigious award ceremony.
According to Soompi, the news was announced Lee's agency BH Entertainment on Jan. 23. With his invitation to the Oscars, Lee has become the first actor Korean actor to be invited to the ceremony.
"He's not one of the nominees, but getting invited in itself is an honour," Lee's agency said in statement recently released. Details about Lee's invitation for the ceremony is yet to be revealed.
In Korea, the actor is noted for the works in the movies like "A Bittersweet Life," "The Good, the Bad, the Weird," "Joint Security," and television series "Iris" and "Masquerade."
The actor has also appeared in several impressive roles in Hollywood movies. He is best known for his "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" and "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" character Storm Shadow. Recently, he appeared as T-1000 in "Terminator Genisys."
For now, the only other Korean celeb who has been invited to 2016 Oscars is soprano singer Jo Sumi. She is not only on the guest list, but she has also been nominated for her song "Simple Song # 3" that featured in 2015 comedy drama starring Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel, Rachel Weisz, Paul Dano and Jane Fona. According to Kpopstarz, Jo is the first Korean to be nominated for Oscars. She has been nominated for the Best Original Song category.
She is competing with The Weeknd's "Earned it" from "Fifty Shades of Grey," J. Ralph and Sia's "Manta Ray" from "Racing Extinction," Lady Gaga's "Til it Happens to You" from "The Hunting Ground" and Sam Smith's "Writings on the Wall" from "Spectre."
"Simple Song #3" was composed by David Lang and it was also nominated in Golden Globe Awards.
2016 Oscars Awards ceremony presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will take place on Feb. 28 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood California. The awards ceremony will be shown live on ABC in the United States.
