It's official! The 90's Chinese television drama "My Fair Princess" will be back on TV once again. However, it may not be as you expect it to be. Read on for details.
The costume drama "My Fair Princess," also known as "Return of the Pearl Princess" and "Princess Returning Pearl," will be remade in an animation feature, CriEnglish.com reported. Not many details about the new version of the show are revealed. However, it is said that the leading actress Zhao Wei will be directing the animated version.
Written Chiung Yao, "My Fair Princess" depicts a Cinderella-like story. The story of the enormously popular television series is set in 18th-century Qing Dynasty when Emperor Qianlong was ruling the region.
The show follows the story of a young orphaned girl Xiaoyanzi in Beijing. Her life changes when she meets Ziwei and becomes friends with her at a wedding. During the course of the storyline, the Emperor finds out Ziwei is his daughter. Both, Ziwei and Xiaoyanzi become princesses.
Starring Wei as Xiaoyanzi, Ruby Lin as Ziwei, Alec Su as Yongqi, Zhou Jie as Fu Erkang, Zhang Tielin as Emperor and Fan Bingbing as Jinsuo, the story was shown in two seasons that were televised on China Television network in 1988 and 1989.
The animated version of the show will be produced by Alibaba Pictures. Release date and other related details about the upcoming "My Fair Princess" adaptation are yet to be revealed.
Meanwhile, the website notes that the show is termed as the "most commercially successful Chinese-language series in the history." The show's massive success has earned the cast members praises, popularity, and fame. Even after all these years, the main cast members of "My Fair Princess" remain to be some of the "biggest names in Chinese entertainment industry."
