Recent rumors have emerged that the New York Knicks are set to pursue Sacramento Kings forward Omri Casspi in midseason.
The Knicks are having one of their best seasons in recent years as the team is fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 14-10 record. New York has won six of their last seven games, but still, the expectations are high for the team that acquired Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and Courtney Lee during the offseason.
While the team is not expected to pursue any trades at this time as they are still assessing their recent acquisitions, there are rumors that team president Phil Jackson is monitoring the league's trade activity, especially those of rival squads.
If any of their competitors would make a significant move in the trade season, then the Knicks are projected to follow suit to stay at par.
The NBA's restriction to trade newly-signed free agents is set to be lifted on Dec. 15 and a lot of teams have the chance to improve their respective rosters to make a run for the playoffs in April.
A lot of players are in the rumor mill right now, some of them are stars and others are reliable role players, and it would not be surprising if the Knicks try to trade for any one of them in midseason.
Fansided reported that New York could target Casspi before the trade deadline as he is considered as a "player with a skill set that fits Jeff Hornacek's system".
Casspi is a tall wing player that can shoot from deep with a "high release point", which is ideal for the NBA's current small ball trend.
The report said that the Israeli small forward is perhaps the "type of one-year rental who enables the Knicks to explore different small-ball rotations with minimal risk".
Inquisitr indicated that Casspi's agents are presently reaching out to interested teams as he is said to be discontented about his current minutes in Sacramento.
Casspi is averaging 6.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in only 19.0 minutes for the Kings this season. He is shooting 48.1 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from beyond the arc.
