Miami Heat have a very bad season this year. They need to revamp the roster and the important question with the center Hassan Whiteside is whether to trade him or not, because he is not up to the challenge in the revolution in today’s NBA game.
According to Bleacher Report, the role of center position has shifted. Based on the statistics, there are 16 centers who has been able to put up double digit three-pointer this season. Brooklyn Nets’ Brook Lopez topped the list with 43 three-pointer made, followed by DeMarcus Cousins and Marc Gasol with equally 41 three-pointers.
The stretch-center revolution in NBA has made player in center position to move further from the paint and making outside shot and sometimes shooting from behind the arc. This require a good field goal percentage which unfortunately Whiteside is not very good at. He has only 53.8 percent to make field goal, ranked 34th from all centers in the NBA.
Therefore, according to FOX Sports, Miami Heat may need to trade him. With a 9-19 records after a 95-105 loss against the Celtics on Sunday, Dec. 18, it is time to revamp the roster.
Trading Whiteside may be the best option to keep Miami Heat ahead of the game. Whiteside currently led the team in rebounds and blocks, but the fast pace game in the NBA required versatile front court player, who is able to move away from the paint and doing more than just rim defense.
Moreover, Whiteside also has a very low free throw shooting percentage. He only made 52.5 percent of his free throw attempt, slightly a 0.1 percent better than Atlanta Hawks center Dwight Howard. However, Howard has a much better field goal percentage with 63.2 percent.
The question whether to trade him or not will determine the next step of Miami Heat. They surely need a booster in their offense as they ranked 25th in the offensive efficiency with 0.996. While in the defensive efficiency, the Heat ranked 12th position.
Whiteside has been playing significant role in the team defense. His defensive prowess can be seen in the video below, when he made a ridiculous block in the game against the Raptors from the .NBA channel below:
