Lee Kwang Soo was the only one to receive a recognition at the "2016 SBS Entertainment Awards" from the variety show "Running Man."
Despite the lack of awards, "Running Man" cast and crew attended that awarding event, stating that it was their last ceremony together before the SBS show ends in February, Allkpop reported. The show even took to their Instagram account to explain their decision to attend the "2016 SBS Entertainment Awards."
"[RunningMan @ 2016SBSEntertainmentAwards] #LeeKwangSoo won the first prize on variety program at 2016 SBS Entertainment Awards. RM members expressed their willing to join in the ceremony as calmly as possible without winning prizes so RM program just won 1 prize," the show posted alongside photo of Lee Kwang Soo.
"Running Man" was mired in controversy after the show announced Kim Jong Kook and Song Ji Hyo's sudden departure. Reports claimed the variety program only informed the two cast members at the last minute.
The decision infuriated a lot of fans who were shocked of the sudden announcement. Aside from that, further reports stated even the cast members were confused upon learning about the matter.
In fact, the "Running Man" staff has released an official statement to address the matter and apologize to the cast and supporters. On the Dec. 25 broadcast of the show, the cast members opened a letter that stated, "To our loving "Running Man" cast members, we apologize for the hurt and pain we have caused you," Soompi noted.
The staff even promised to grow maturely after the controversy. As a reply, Yoo Jae Suk stepped up as the leader of the cast and said, "We will work harder than ever in the new year. We would like to take this moment to apologize to our viewers once more for causing them distress."
All six cast members then greeted their viewers a Merry Christmas before the "Running Man" episode ended.
