Just when we thought that the side-scrolling beat-'em-up genre has faded away, we hear news of Arc System Works unveiling "Double Dragon IV" coming to PS4 and PC next year.
According to recent reports, Arc System Works has released a new trailer lasting at about two minutes, containing a montage showcasing the original "Double Dragon" game in action released in the NES. Some might think that this "Double Dragon" sequel might have some of reboot in terms of visuals, something that PS3's "Double Dragon Neon" has done.
However, somewhere after the montage, a new gameplay footage has commenced - something that has never before been seen in the previous games. The actual footage of "Double Dragon IV" has shown itself - and it looks like a very, very genuine "Double Dragon" classic game! This is true since the sprites and gameplay mechanics have been brought in from the NES classics.
Fans would be overjoyed to see this, especially those hopping aboard the whole nostalgia train. The main menu for "Double Dragon IV" will include the usual story mode option, along with configurations and other options. However, in addition to that, we'll be seeing more options available: 2P Duel, Japanese mode, and an unspecified "???"
As the label suggests, what the last option does is entirely a mystery.
As mentioned from the game's website, "Double Dragon IV" will be available for digital retail at 800 Yen (which is around $8 USD) for the PlayStation 4 and PC sometime in 2017. Even before its release, the side-scrolling beat-'em-up classic has already received a rating of T from the ESRB and 12 from PEGI.
In related news, Nintendo announced that they've released the NES once again back in retail stores, which was sometime in November. The NES Classic Edition is bundled with 30 classic games, including "Double Dragon II" and costs $60/AUD$100/GBP£50.
