In an interview to promote the Chinese version of his current drama "Operation Proposal," Lay talked about how he would love to accept challenging roles for dramas and movies; however, the EXO member admitted he dislikes to take part in romance dramas and films.
"I'm okay with doing physically demanding pieces like a war or military movie/drama, but I think perhaps I will turn down romance pieces. I feel burdened. Love doesn't have to be portrayed by romantic scenes only," Lay said as per Allkpop.
The EXO idol revealed one of the reasons why he refused to be the romantic one in films and dramas is to avoid being misunderstood. "I am reluctant to say, "I love you," because I don't want my fans to feel hurt or misunderstand me," he said.
Previously, Lay also expressed his disapproval on kiss scenes, admitting that he does not understand on why such intimate scenes are needed for drama and films. Soompi noted that the idol also said he has never done it for his projects.
"Maybe it's because I'm quite traditional and conservative, but having kiss scenes in dramas is a bit difficult for me to understand, especially because it's something you do in a relationship," the EXO member cited.
Lay added kiss scenes in dramas and films may not be good for the two artists doing it. He also pointed out that there are some productions that overuse intimate scenes even if these are not necessary.
The idol said incorporating too muck kiss scenes in dramas and films is irresponsible and something he does not comprehend.
Meanwhile, the EXO member is currently promoting "Operational Proposal," which is a remake of a Japanese drama. The Chinese drama revolves around the life of a man who walks back in time to change his destiny with the love of his life.
