Dov Katz, an Oculus engineer got arrested for an alleged sex solicitation with a minor last week. Katz didn't know that it was an undercover operation by the police.
In an article published by The Verge, the police were having a sting operation where one of them pretended to be a 15-year-old chatter that Katz responded to. Apparently, he was caught soliciting sex from the said minor and was charged for doing it.
Reports made by Geekwire said that the longtime engineer of Oculus even agreed to meet up with the fictitious girl at a Washington hotel on December 21. He has $600 in his hand and said he was there to save the girl he was talking to online. Cops didn't believe him because prior to the meet up, he already sent a lot of inappropriate and explicit messages that confirms he planned to do something sexual with the kid.
Katz is an important employee of Oculus since he is the head of the company's computer vision department and machine learning. He has been with them for three years now even before Facebook decided to buy it out for $2 billion. This engineer is originally from Israel until he decided to move and start his job in California. His works and his achievements were even featured in The Times of Israel.
All his hard work seems to have gone down the drain since his arrest. His arraignment is scheduled on January 5 and he is being charged for his communication with a minor for immoral purposes. The company has not responded to the press regarding their employee's condition if they would decide to keep him or fire him. Tech Crunch also reported this incident saying his bail is worth $125,000. His lawyer has not said anything to the press as well.
