Real-life couple Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo were awarded with the Grand Prize at the "2016 KBS Drama Awards" for their roles on "Descendants of the Sun." On top of that, they were also recognized as the Best Couple of 2016.
According to Kpopherald, many were expecting that the Song-Song couple will earn the Grand Prize, considering the popularity of "Descendants of the Sun"; however, Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo were surprised upon hearing the announced which left the latter fumbled during his acceptance speech.
"I first received the script (for "Descendants of the Sun") while I was still in the army. I give my thanks to those who trusted the fresh-out-of-army me. I started with nothing. Thank you for bringing me here," the emotional actor said.
Song Joong Ki even revealed he often cries when he gets stress during filming of drama series; hence, he was called the crybaby. The actor then thanked Song Hye Kyo, describing her as the "most beautiful and lovely partner."
On the other hand, Song Hye Kyo said she was embarrassed of her acting skills on "Descendants of the Sun," stating that she was even hesitant to accept the role when it was first offered to her.
"I thank the people who have trusted me with the role. I was very happy during the time we filmed this. Most of all, I believe I am able to receive this award thanks to having met the best partner I could hope for, Mr. Song Joong Ki. I thank him once again," the actress said.
Yibada cited this is the second time Song Joong Ki received the Grand Prize at the "KBS Drama Awards" and the second time the Song-Song couple appeared in an awarding ceremony since they attended that "52nd Baeksang Art Awards" last June.
On top of that, the Song-Song couple was among those who were awarded of the Best Couple Award at the "2016 KBS Drama Awards" alongside Lee Sang Yoon and Kim Ha Neul, and Oh Ji Ho and Heo Jung Eun.
