2017 has arrived and for some male celebrities, the new year signifies the end of their military service. For fans, it means excitement since they will be seeing their idols again after two years of hiatus.
Moreover, while many are awaiting their official enlistment date, there are about eight popular artists who will be discharged this year. As listed on TV Report, the names are mentioned below:
First off, Kim Hyun Joong is returning to civil life this February after enlisting in May 2015. The singer/actor entered the army at a time when he was at the height of a scandal so his discharge is expected to be highly publicized event as well. Hyun Joong was involved in scuffle against his former girlfriend after he was accused of domestic violence.
Although, he was already declared innocent of the charges, he will still be in court once he return as Ms. Choi, the ex-girlfriend, filed a counter to reverse the ruling that was handed down in August 2016. The judge did not find enough evidence to indict the singer for alleged battery that led to miscarriage of his former lady love.
Next up is TVXQ's Yunho. He enlisted in July 2015 and will be discharged this April. The singer was in the military band and he is expected to hold a performance with teammate Changmin as soon as the latter comes back in August.
In July, Super Junior members Donghae and Eunhyuk are returning after completing their military duty. Both have started their mandatory army service in October 2015.
Eunhyuk served as conscripted policeman while Donghae was in the military band. Another Super Junior member, Choi Siwon, is returning to the limelight in August. Choi was also assigned in the police force and began his service in November 2015.
Park Yoo Chun is another celebrity who will be discharged in August. It is likely that he will not immediately return to the stage since he still needs some time to recover from the rape and prostitution scandal which erupted while he was in the army.
Lastly, Lee Seung Gi will be back in October after enlisting in February 2016. Prior to joining the army, he broke up with girlfriend Yoona of Girls Generation. According to Korea Times, Seung Gi was assigned in the Special Forces of the Warfare Command.
