South Korean girl group 2NE1 bids farewell through a finale track. The track is entitled "Good Bye."
On Jan. 5, it was reported that CL, Sandara Park and Park Bom had flown overseas to film a music video in secrecy last Jan. 3. Their label, YG Entertainment, then confirmed the news saying, "As 2NE1 were not able to say a final goodbye to fans due to their sudden disbandment, they plan to send a song," Allkpop revealed.
The agency added, "2NE1 was much loved, not just in Korea, but all around the world. The group will be saying their official last goodbyes through this upcoming song," Soompi reported.
However, a source revealed that Gong Minzy was probably not participating in the upcoming project since she is already signed under a different management. Minzy officially left the group in April 2016 and signed with the label Music Works.
We can recall that news about the group's disbandment broke out in November 2016. The group's exclusive contract with YG Entertainment ended last May. CL, Dara, and Bom were said to have held long discussions before they have come to the decision to disband the group.
Two of the group's member, CL and Dara, had decided to stay under YG Entertainment to pursue their solo careers. Bom, on the other hand did not renew its contract with YG.
Formed by YG Entertainment in 2009, 2NE1 debuted with their track "Fire" on the same year. Since then, the group has released two EPs "2NE1 (2009)" and "2NE1 (2011)."
Their first EP gave them the "Song of the Year" award for their hit single "I Don't Care." Follow-up singles, such as "Go Away," "Lonely," and "I Am The Best," were similarly successful, with "I Am the Best" winning their second "Song of the Year" award in 2011.
