The Prince protégé and actress-singer Andy Allo is in talks to sing as a rival singer to the acapella group in Universal's musical comedy-drama film "Pitch Perfect 3." The Bellas are getting some stiff competition.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Allo will play Charity in "Pitch Perfect 3." Her character is a vocalist in the music group Dew, a rival of another band named the Belles.
Allo will be joining stars Anna Kendrick (Beca), Rebel Wilson (Fat Amy), Brittany Snow (Chloe Beale), and Ruby Rose (in an undisclosed role) in "Pitch Perfect 3." Hailee Steinfeld will also cast as Emily, who is the newest recruit of the Bellas.
"Step Up: All In" helmer Trish Sie will direct "Pitch Perfect 3" with "Pitch Perfect 2" helmer Elizabeth Banks producing. Alison Small, Max Handelman of Brownstone Prods., and Gold Circle's Paul Brooks are also set to produce, Deadline reported.
The script of the musical franchise "Pitch Perfect 3" is written by Kay Cannon and Mike White with the last draft penned by Sie. Universal's vice president of production Sara Scott is overseeing for the studio.
The "Pitch Perfect" franchise for Universal has made a whopping $402.8M worldwide since the first one became a sleeper hit in 2012. The second installment was released in 2015 and was also a commercial success.
Allo was originally discovered by Prince with whom she toured before his death. She was part of Prince's band named New Power Generation and worked with the late singer, who also produced, on her second album "Superconductor."
As an actress, Allo will next be seen in the Sundance feature "The Hero" with "Ghost Rider" veteran actor Sam Elliot, which is set to be released on Jan. 21. She is repped by ICM Partners and Zero Gravity Management.
"Pitch Perfect 3" will begin shooting soon and is scheduled to bow on Dec. 22.
