Fox has reportedly given green light to two new additions to the "X-Men" franchise with "X-Men: Supernova" and "X-Men: The New Mutants."
The title of "X-Men: Supernova" had long been rumored as the name of Josh Boone's film. However, this is not the case because the film will come alongside Boone's "X-Men: The New Mutants." While Fox has yet to issue an official statement, both films are reportedly slated for production in Montreal on April ("New Mutants") and May ("Supernova") respectively, Comic Book Resources reported.
Not too long ago, talks about a soft reboot of the primary "X-Men" storyline has been discussed. "Supernova" could very well be the sequel to the recently concluded trilogy of Bryan Singer after "X-Men: Apocalypse." It is also entirely possible that the title could be a spin-off film, Omega Underground reported.
Judging from the production date, it is also likely that both films will not be a continuation of the other. Since their shooting dates are close to each other, it is hard to say which film will be slated for release first.
While "New Mutants" will obviously introduce a new generation of mutants, "Supernova" could follow an already established mutant character in the earlier films. The teasers hint that it could be a cosmic codename for an intergalactic adventure that will retell "The Dark Phoenix Saga."
It would likely be based on the comic book title "X-Men: Supernovas" which focuses on a group of heroes lead by Rogue who fought against the Children of the Vault. In the earlier "X-Men" films, Rogue has been played by Anna Paquin.
Do note that none of these had been officially confirmed and there is a possibility that this could just be rumors for now. However, it is worth noting that an "Apocalypse" sequel is still in the pipeline so stay tuned how it all plays out.
