Who doesn't know Steve Harvey? He hosted the 2016 Miss Universe pageant and apparently wrongly announced the winner which should be Miss Philippines. He met with President-elect Donald Trump on Friday, January 13 at Trump Tower despite criticism for his jokes about Asian men during his show a week before.
Talk show host Harvey had a rendezvous with Trump last Friday and looks to be enthusiastic informing reporters that he was looking forward to working with Dr. Ben Carson and "bring about some positive change in the inner cities." Carson is presently waiting for the Senate's approval for his probable role as Trump's Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, as reported by Us Magazine.
"I wanna do things with all of the major inner cities to see if we can bring about some change and help some of these young people out," he added, flashing a smile.
Harvey, 49, formerly campaigned for Hillary Clinton but mentioned to reporters that Trump is the most astonishing candidate he had seen in years. He also acknowledged his mockery about Asian men last week on his show stating to reporters that he haven't laughed that much the previous few days and they're beating him up on the internet.
NBC News reported that aside from meeting Trump, he was also able to meet his daughters. Both men assessed notes on their golf scores, favorite TV shows, and mutual friends. Harvey said that the US president-elect understands that he needs some supporters in the Housing and Urban Development.
Their main interest of discussion is about Detroit and Chicago, which is the location to the taping of the "Steve Harvey Show" where a quick rise in violence has been recorded with 762 murders the past year. Harvey is hopeful that he could make use of his influence to amend things.
Many people posted on Twitter criticizing him for meeting with Trump especially with his joke about Asian men. Harvey will still be hosting the Miss Universe 2017 to be held in the Philippines on January 29, 2017.
