"Moana" composer Lin-Manuel Miranda has been tapped in another animated project "Vivo" along with Sony Pictures Animation chief Kristine Belson. The film was originally set up at DreamWorks Animation.
After Miranda had his number one movie in "Moana," he has set a big animated film project "Vivo." As the musical finished its stage run and got set up for a movie with Universal, DreamWorks moved quickly to get in business with Miranda on an original. However, Belson has fast-tracked Miranda's animated project which gives Belson a coup in her efforts to double the output of the animation group over the next few years and reminds her of how fortunes rise and fall in Hollywood, Deadline reported.
According to Variety, Miranda will write several songs for "Vivo." "In the Heights" screenwriter Quiara Alegría Hudes will be penning the script, while "The Croods" director Kirk De Micco is being helmed on it. "This Means War" producer Lisa Stewart is set to produce with "Julie and Julia" producer Laurence Mark on board to executive produce.
"Vivo" will be anchored by eleven songs. It follows a monkey loving the music and adventure. As a result of his love for music and adventure, he made a dangerous journey from Havana to Miami to fulfill his destiny.
Miranda's recent successes include "Hamilton" and comedy animation "Moana." He breathed life into some of his other projects including the musical drama "In the Heights" adaptation at the Weinstein Co. Like "Vivo," "In the Heights" was originally set up at Universal but was rerouted to the Weinstein Company after budget issues.
Miranda has stayed busy on the movie front. He is about to make his theatrical acting debut as the male lead in Disney's "Mary Poppins Returns" that films on Dec. 25, 2018. He is repped by WME.
"Vivo" is set to be released on Dec. 18, 2020.
