EXO member Kai has landed his first starring role in the upcoming KBS2 drama series "Killer School." Even before production could begin, the show's crew is already excited to work with the idol group member.
According to allkpop, is playing an energetic youngster named Si Kyung. At 18 years old, he's reached an age where he has the tendency to be rebellious and defiant. He gets punished for lying to his mom and he's forced to transfer from Seoul to a school in the countryside.
In his new school, he is obliged to volunteer at a hospice ward where he meets all kinds of people that are inches away from death. This experience teaches Kai's character the true value and meaning of life, and he later learns and believes in love. Kai will star alongside actress Jung Da Bin.
The drama will be produced by UBI Culture, which also created teen drama "High School Love On." The show will consist of 16 episodes, all of which will be pre-filmed in their entirety. The writers of "Sharp #2" will do the script for "Killer School."
Kai's casting, however, has been met with controversy. Allkpop reported that netizens showed concern for Kai's acting skills and the bias towards idol actors in general. The netizens questioned the EXO's members acting experience, saying it's unfair to suddenly cast an idol member as the lead in a drama when he's only been in so few web dramas.
Others also pointed out that Kai's acting skills aren't that good, and isn't even comparable to other idol-actors such as D.O. and Siwan. UBI Culture defended its decision to cast Kai, saying the EXO member "will capture viewers' explosive attention" to the drama series.
The official release date for "Killer School" has not yet been released.
