"Warcraft" movie director, Duncan Jones, took to Twitter his sentiments about the new "Green Lantern" movie that is about to come out on 2020. He has a lot of negative things to say about the character and he has doubts that the movie will make bank.
In an article published by Cinema Blend, Jones tweeted some of the thoughts he had regarding Warner Brothers and for the most part, they weren't that pleasant. The 45-year-old director thinks the Green Lantern character is dumb and the power of the ring just seems ridiculous.
Anyway, Im not doing Green Lantern. I think he's dumb. :) Hope someone proves me wrong.

The hook in the "dumb jock" version of Green Lantern is that he has the power, but lacks the wits to use it. Endearingly frustrating. — Duncan Jones (@ManMadeMoon) January 13, 2017
Mechanics & stakes of Green Lantern always bugged me. Ring that can do anything & you have a tough time winning fights? Hero, please!

The limit on the rings power should not be about battery life, but the need to be original every time you use it. — Duncan Jones (@ManMadeMoon) January 13, 2017
Green Lantern should be about a simple-minded jock who has to come up with imaginative, new ideas every time he uses the ring.

Jones is particularly not fond of the idea of the power of the ring. It doesn't make sense to him that the one wearing it could pretty much create anything he wishes simply by using it. The question is how could that happen when the ring is also used during fist fights and laser explosion.
According to Comic Book, the whole issue about the ring has become controversial even back in the 90s version of "The Green Lantern." The character himself, Hal Jordan, would often criticize the power of his ring and how is there no rationale behind its ability to both create and break something at the same time.
Moreover, Jones' comment about the movie and the character will create more challenges for the writers assigned to do the script. He wanted to be proven wrong from all the negative things he had to say about it and he also seems sure that this movie is not going to make a lot of money.
In retrospect, his movie "Warcraft" also didn't do well in the American market. However, it did make bank outside the U.S. When it comes to reviews from critics, its quality wasn't that far from the "Green Lantern." Some fans also didn't agree with him and even called him "dumb" from his public rant on Twitter.
