Although some actors try to avoid being typecast as much as they can, typecasting in Hollywood isn't necessarily a bad thing especially if you hired to play different characters in different superhero franchises. Here's a list of actors who played comic book roles one too many times.
Chris Evans
Before suited up as Captain America in "Captain America: The First Avenger," Evans played a completely different superhero in the Marvel stable-Johnny Storm/The Human Torch. He portrayed the playful young superhero in two "Fantastic Four" movies.
According to Cosmic Book News, Evans was asked at the "Captain America: Civil War" Wizard World New Orleans comic-con panel which Marvel character he would want to be on his side of the team. He chose The Human Torch.
"I just like the guy. I think he's fun. It would be fun to fight with him. I think he would be cracking jokes and having a good time," Evans explained.
Ben Affleck
Affleck is no stranger to playing superhero vigilante types with half of his face covered with a mask. In 2003, Affleck famously took on the role of Daredevil. The movie was a flop and Affleck admitted that he regrets doing the movie.
"The only movie I actually regret is 'Daredevil,'" he told Playboy. "It just kills me. I love that story, that character, and the fact that it got f--d up the way it did stays with me."
Jon Favreau
Before directing the first two "Iron Man" films and playing Tony Stark's loyal friend Happy Hogan, Favreau starred as Foggy Nelson in "Daredevil."
Halle Berry
Another regrettable superhero movie was "Catwoman" in 2004. Halle Berry played the role and received a Worst Actress Razzie for it. The actress moved on to a better superhero franchise, "X-Men," wherein she played Storm.
Brandon Routh
Routh will probably go down in history as one of the most forgettable Supermans in history. He suited up as the iconic superhero in the 2006 film "Superman Returns." The film earned mixed reviews, but not enough to expand "Superman Returns" into a franchise. The actor now plays Atom in The CW's "Legends of Tomorrow."
Ryan Reynolds
Reynolds arguably takes the cake for being the actor who has played the most number of comic book characters in the silver screen. His first portrayal as a comic book character was in "Blade: Trinity" where he starred as Hannibal King. "Blade" was actually based on the Marvel comic book series of the same name.
Reynolds made the jump from Marvel to DC when he played Green Lantern in 2011. More recently, Reynolds is making waves as the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool. Reynolds' portrayal to the role is highly-lauded, so much so that there are talks that he might get an Oscar nomination for it.
