Slack Technologies finally provides its users with the long requested features for their Slack collaboration tools, threaded message. Users have been requesting the new feature for some time, and now they are able to have a more focus conversation with this threaded message features.
In the company's official blog, posted Thursday, Jan. 19, Slack announced new features to its users. The threaded message will organize the conversation and making the conversation on specific topics to be easier to follow.
Slack is a cloud-base messaging and collaboration service which aimed to help its users to have better collaboration between their team. The tools have been used by many organization to help them build a better teamwork. Since its launching in 2013, there are more than 1 million active users who communicate through Slack daily.
Especially with this new features, users can follow up certain topics of conversation by branching off smaller messaging threads as reported by CNET. Users can also notify other users using the @-mention in the threaded message.
Unlike the regular message, threaded message do not trigger notification of “unread” in the Slack channel. Users will not be notified of the new message in the thread, which gives convenient, moreover for the very active thread. As a replacement, Slack is setting the view to see all thread on the left hand menu, to allow users keeeping track of the thread which they are participating.
Slack began as an internal communication message from Canadian game developer company Tiny Speck which helped them to communicate between team members during developing its role playing game Glitch in 2011. After the game was defunct in November 2012, the company shifted its business to provide the real-time collaboration tools based on their own IRC-based internal communication message. The company was renamed as Slack Technologies in 2015 and with around 700 employess, Slack continue to improve its collaboration tools.
