Popular South Korean series "Goblin: The Lonely and Great God" has finally reached the end of its run, and its two-part finale helped secure the title of the highest-rated tvN drama. The series, starring Gong Yoo as Kim Shin and Kim Go-Eun (Ji Eun-tak), ended on a bittersweet note, as there was no definitive happy ending for the goblin and his bride. Still, the two-part finale managed to sweep the series a record-breaking 18 percent viewership, making it the highest-rated drama on tvN.
What happened in 'Goblin' finale
The "Goblin" finale first started off on a happy note, as Shin and Eun-tak happily agreed to get married. Their happiness, however, is tainted by Sunny (Yoo In-na) leaving the Grim Reaper (Lee Dong-wook), and the Reaper subsequently crushed by this decision. During their parting embrace, Sunny told Shin that they will no longer be meeting each other in this lifetime, according to Drama Beans.
Shin and Eun-tak's marriage eventually pulls through during the first part of the 'Goblin' finale. But as the married couple slowly settle into their newly found bliss, the Reaper suddenly gets notes about a bunch of kindergarten students dying. Suddenly their notes change as a death that cannot be filed into the registry interferes with their deaths--a sacrifice. It turns out that Eun-tak, seeing that a truck was headed on a collision course with the school bus, drove in front of the truck to save their lives.
While Eun-tak and Shin eventually reunite before Reaper takes her away into her next life, Eun-tak promised Shin that she will find him and be her bride once more. Shin eventually travels the world alone, even after both Reaper and Sunny are reincarnated as well. However, during the last few minutes of the 'Goblin' finale, Shin, who is in Quebec, eventually runs into the reincarnated Eun-tak.
